(Myanmar). The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of St. John Bosco Community of Hlaing Thar Yar, in Myanmar, of Mary Our Help (CMY) Province, in this difficult moment caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, have put in place numerous initiatives to help the needy population, such as visiting refugees and helping poor families through the distribution of food, supplying drinking water, and the prevention of Coronavirus.
A new initiative is the vegetable garden cultivation of land near the house for the self-sustenance of the Community and sharing of products with children and families living in a slum.
The children of the oratory, with joy and generosity, helped the FMA to prepare fertile ground to sow at the right time and to harvest the products: cucumbers, beans, mint, pumpkins, aubergines, bananas, and other nutritious vegetables. Together with the sisters, they collect vegetables and prepare them for distribution to poor families.
During the distribution, the sisters were struck by the words of gratitude from the poor, mostly Buddhists:
“Dear Sisters, you are like our mothers. You always remember us, find various ways to respond to our needs, and share with us everything you have. Thank you for your love and care, through which we feel the blessing of God.”
The vegetables are also shared with Yangon’s St. Joseph Major Seminary, which hosts about three hundred people who have returned from abroad and are going through the quarantine period.
The FMA let poor children with their families come to pick vegetables from their land and experience that the more it is shared, the more the harvest increases.
