Alessandria (Italy). On 27 August 2021 in Gavi, in the Province of Alessandria, Sr. Gianna Guido, Daughter of Mary Help of Christians of St. Mary D. Mazzarello Community of Mornese (Italy), of Mary Help of Christians Province (IPI), received the Grand Collar Award of Our Lady of the Guard.
The initiative, in its fourth edition, is organized by the Fr. Rossi Foundation, established in 2003 to commemorate the figure and work of Giovanni Rossi (1913-2001), of the Congregation of the Sons of Holy Mary Immaculate, to whom is entrusted since 1941 the custody of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Guard of Gavi. Father Fr. was Rector of the Shrine from 1969 to 2001, carrying out a major renovation and enhancement of the sacred building, and Dean of the “Sons of Mary” Middle School, active in Gavi from 1947 to 1988.
The motivation for the award conferred on Sr. Gianna Guido:
She spent most of her life dedicating herself to the care and education of young people through teaching and directing in various schools in our Province (Alessandria), never forgetting her affection and deep devotion to Our Lady of the Guard Sanctuary of Gavi.
Sr. Gianna, originally from Bosio, a small town in the Province of Alessandria, is the Director of the courses of the University of the Third Age – UNITRE, established in Mornese (AL) on the initiative of the FMA.
During the ceremony, other citizens of the area received awards who have distinguished themselves for their devotion to Our Lady of the Guard, whose feast was celebrated on 29 August, for their spirit of service and for their closeness to the religious Community of the Sanctuary.
