Rome (Italy).On 3 April 2025, is the 6th and last appointment of the Salesian Thursdays at the Auxilium – in presence and online – on themes of pedagogy, spirituality, and history of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, proposed by the Study Center on the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of the Pontifical Faculty of Education Science «Auxilium» in Rome.
The 2024/2025 edition is placed at the beginning of the Triennium in preparation for 150th of the first FMA missionary expedition (2024-2027), whose events are organized by the Study Center on the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) in collaboration with the FMA Institute’s Missions Sector. This last meeting is a multi-voice dialogue on the Preventive System today, to continue the in-depth study of some aspects that emerged from the results of the research carried out at 150th of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. More precisely, it will reflect on the goal of education that Saint John Bosco summed up in the expression, “We educate good Christians and honest citizens”.
The first intervention is entrusted to Sister Magna Martínez Jiménez, FMA, Professor of General Didactics, which will lead to understanding the antecedents of this binomial, often used by Don John Bosco to refer to the purpose of education. She will dwell on how he used it and to whom he addressed it.
In the second part, there will be a dialogue between Sister Enrica Ottone, FMA, Ordinary Professor of Social Pedagogy, and Sister Martha Séïde, FMA, Professor of the Theology of Education. Recalling the results of the research, the two presenters will seek on the one hand, to re-read and interpret the data on the nucleus in question and, on the other hand, to justify the unity of the binomial in the vision of the unitary end of the educative method.
It is a formative opportunity to revive the educational passion in the footsteps of Saint John Bosco and Saint Mary Domenica Mazzarello, to continue to “educate good Christians and honest citizens”, so as to keep alive and current the transforming power of Salesian education.
