Turin (Italy). From 16 February to 12 April 2025, the 29th General Chapter of the Salesian Congregation (CG 29) will be held in Valdocco, Turin, an intense period of spirituality, analysis, and fundamental decisions for the six-year period 2025-2031.

The chapter event will draw 269 people to the Motherhouse in Valdocco, including the 227 chapter members and all other individuals involved in various capacities. It will serve to reflect on the state of the Congregation today and to relaunch it into the future by following the guideline expressed by its theme, “Passionate for Jesus Christ, Dedicated to the Young”; a theme that underscores the importance for the Sons of Don Bosco to return to the heart of the consecrated Salesian identity centered on Christ, while at the same time fully devoting themselves to service toward the primary beneficiaries of their charism.

During the seven weeks of work, the theme of GC29 will be addressed with specific attention to its three component nuclei, summarized as follows:

– Core 1: Animation and care for the true life of each Salesian.

– Core 2: Together Salesians, Salesian Family and Laity ‘With’ and ‘For’ the Youth.

– Core 3: A courageous review and redesign of Congregational governance at all levels.

The GC29 will officially begin on 16 February with a Eucharistic celebration in the Basilica of Mary Help of Christians and the inaugural meeting in the Teatro Grande in Valdocco, where all the logistical information will also be communicated to Chapter members.

At the opening day also present will be the Superior General of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Mother Chiara Cazzuola.

In the following days, until 20 February, the participants will be guided by Fr Pascual Chávez, Rector Major Emeritus, on a journey of spirituality and discernment, with a spiritual pilgrimage to Colle Don Bosco and Chieri.

Saturday 22 February will be a key day, because it will see the presentation of the Instrumentum Laboris, the working tool for all the activities of the following weeks.

On Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 February the Chapter will come to life with the presentation of reports on the state of the Congregation: first the Vicar, then the other Sector Councillors and the Regional Councillors will illustrate the successes and challenges of the 2020-2025 five-year period. The report of the Rector Major to GC29 will be presented at the end.

The following days, 26-27 and 28 February, will be dedicated to the analysis of the challenges and priorities of the 2025-2031 six-year term, through moments of personal study, commission work, and the responses of the Vicar of the Rector Major to questions that the Chapter members will have specifically formulated and collected for the occasion.

The first three weeks of March will proceed regularly through the ordinary work sessions on the specific themes of the GC29. During this period, 12-13 March will stand out, when the proposed amendments to the Constitutions will be presented and voted on.

One of the most significant moments of GC29 will certainly be the period dedicated to discernment and the election of the new leadership of the Congregation. From 23 to 29 March, the Rector Major, the Vicar and the Sector and Regional Councillors will be elected, thus defining the new General Council of the Congregation.

This phase will be followed by another two weeks of specific work on the themes of GC29. The General Chapter will conclude with a jubilee pilgrimage to the Vatican on 11 April, followed by the closing day on 12 April at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. It will be a moment of prayer and spiritual renewal for all the participants, and will mark the beginning of a new phase for the Salesian mission in the world. It will be a moment of prayer and spiritual renewal for all the participants, and will mark the beginning of a new phase for the Salesian mission in the world.

The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians from all over the world accompany with their prayers and affection this important appointment for the benefit of the Congregation, the Salesian mission, and all the young people of the world.
