Rome (Italy). “Gender identity: challenges and perspectives for educators” is the theme of the interdisciplinary course 2024-2025 proposed by the Pontifical Faculty of Education Science “Auxilium” in Rome.
The course aims to explore the main expressions of the concept of gender through a multidisciplinary approach. Through constructive discussion, it is proposed to identify pedagogical and educative paths that promote, especially in the new generations, the process of growth in identity and promote respectful attitudes of welcome and inclusion.
Today’s reality, characterized by fluidity and complexity, raises radical questions about the relational structure of the person. Individualism, loneliness, and isolation contrast with a strong need for encounter and deep relationships. The new generations are particularly vulnerable to media conditioning, which conveys ambiguous and contradictory opinions about the identity and relational structure of the person, as well as the fundamental anthropological paradigm of man-woman. The meanings of parenting also risk being trivialized, entering a vortex of contradictory meanings.
It is therefore urgent to start a deep anthropological reflection to identify the fundamental coordinates that support human relationality in its constituent structural forms and, consequently, in its many other forms.
The aim of this course is to:
- understand the phenomenon in its fundamental coordinates from the point of view of scientific research;
- know the dominant ideologies that most influence social thinking and the concept of gender, as well as the self-design of the new generations;
- address the educative dimension, where relationship is fundamental, since there is no education without relationship;
- identify effective educative pathways to address gender issues with adolescents and young people.
The analysis of the phenomenon by experts in the fields of anthropology, law, psychology, and pedagogy will provide the conceptual and cultural coordinates necessary to address the subject with greater competence.
Intervening in two meetings, there will be: Susy Zanardo (European University of Rome), Sergio Cicatelli (Professor of pedagogical and legal disciplines), Assunta Morresi (University of Perugia), Mariolina Ceriotti Migliarese (doctor, child neuropsychiatry and psychotherapist), and Emanuele Fusi (pedagogical consultant and formator).
The theme will be discussed in depth during two mornings – on 23 and 30 November 2024 from 9:00 to 12:30 – in presence, at the Aula Magna “John Paul II” of the Auxilium Faculty and via live streaming on the Youtube channel.
For those who attend in presence and are not students enrolled in the Faculty nor Teachers of Religion of the Diocese of Porto-Santa Rufina registration is required.
