Rome (Italy). Sr. Katarzyna Renata Kasinska, FMA of Poland, on June 24, 2019 discussed in Paul VI Hall of the Pontifical Lateran University – Rome, her Doctoral Thesis in Canon Law entitled The service of authority in the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians after the Second Vatican Council.

The study and research presented are the fruit of the effort to study the service of authority in the FMA Institute in the light of the documents of the Magisterium of the Council and Post-Council Church, and through the analysis of the ecclesial legislation and the Proper Law of the FMA Institute.

The thesis showed how the FMA Institute from Vatican Council II onward developed according to the Constitutions, indications on the service of authority, recognizing the Superior as a formator, animator, and guide in the Spirit of Mornese, an indispensable presence in the community at the world, provincial, and local level.

The thesis shows the general principles of the service of authority in the FMA Institute highlighting the Family Spirit as an interpretative key to the style of authority; familiarity that is the fruit of the Preventive System and is expressed in attitudes of trust, dialogue, simplicity, loving kindness, and charity.

The thesis also shows, through the analysis of the documents of the FMA Institute published between 1983 and 2019, the characteristics of the service of authority in the third millennium. The Superior in the institute is an animator and the style of animation is concretized in coordination for communion.  Authority for the FMA is an animator who is able to accompany the person on the path of human and spiritual growth, encourages collaboration and participation, and promotes synodality.

Present at the event were the Vicar General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Sr. Chiara Cazzuola and Visiting Councilor Sister Paola Battagliola representing Mother General, the FMA of the Generalate and Auxilium, relatives and students of the Lateran University.
