Lomé (Togo). On 27 September 2021, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of Mary Help of Christians Community of Lomé, of Mother of God West Africa Province (AFO), welcomed Fr. Alphonse Ewoudou, Regional Councilor for Africa-Madagascar of the Salesians of Don Bosco, on a visit from 25 to 29 September 2021, to the SDB Communities of Lomé.
In the Eucharistic Celebration in the Community Chapel, taking a cue from the Gospel of the day (Lk 9: 46-50), “Whoever welcomes this child in my name, welcomes me … whoever is the least among you, is the greatest”, Fr. Alphonse invited the FMA to come to the aid of those who knock on our door, big or small, rich or poor, because it is like welcoming Christ.
“If we are able to kneel before God, we must also know how to kneel before a child; before somewhat demanding young people whom we find in the oratory, to listen to them, to treat them with tenderness and sweetness; before a poor person we meet on the street … to be a glass of water offered to others, to transform their lives. This is where the path to holiness passes.”
The Councilor concluded the homily by saying, “Holiness does not consist in doing extraordinary things, but in doing the ordinary things in an extraordinary way.” At the end of the Eucharist, the FMA Community expressed their joy for his presence with a song and a moment of fraternal sharing.
To the young people in the formation Period of Accompaniment and Guidance and of the Postulancy, he recommended, “Prepare yourself to be good Daughters of Mary Help of Christians! Good journey, I am praying for you. And you too continue to support us with your prayers.” The Community thanked Fr. Alphonse Ewoudou for his family and fraternal gesture, entrusting his mission to the intercession of Mary Help of Christians.
