Phnom Penh (Cambodia). The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians of  Mary Our Help Province of Cambodia and Myanmar (CMY) welcomed the new year 2021 by opening the doors of their hearts and homes to families in difficulty, to whom they offered a substantial meal.

The Provincial, Sr. Jessica Salvaña, proposed to each of the nine communities of the Province to give up something in order to prepare a special meal for families affected in different ways by the Covid-19 pandemic, as a concrete gesture of solidarity to transmit God’s care and  love for His children.

The initiative is a response to the invitation of Pope Francis for the 54th  World Day of Peace on 1 January 2021 with the theme ‘Culture of caring as a path to peace’: “Solidarity concretely expresses our love for others, not as a vague sentiment but as a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good …Solidarity helps us to regard others…as our neighbors, companions on our journey, called like ourselves to partake of the banquet of life to which all are equally invited by God.”

On 1 January 2021, with the involvement of some young people and lay collaborators, the FMA took care of neighboring families, of Christian or Buddhist faith, making them feel loved and served in a special way. Some FMA visited the families in their respective homes, while others were invited to join the communities. The festive meeting ended with a rich meal given or served, welcomed with gratitude by all the families on a day that left a mark in the hearts of those who gave of themselves and those who received.
