Rome (Italy). From 28 August to 7 September 2024, the National Association of Film Culture CGS (Cinecircoli Giovanili Socioculturali) – active since 1967 and promoted in Italy by the Salesians of Don Bosco and the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians – presents what is now tradition, the 81st edition of the Venice International Film Festival. Organized by the Venice Biennale, the exhibition aims to promote the spread of international cinema in all its forms of art, entertainment, and industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue.

The CGS jury is present with 26 participants, mostly young people aged 18 and over, from the local Circles of Alassio, Genoa, Padua, Ancona, Cagliari, Taranto, and Sesto San Giovanni, who will be protagonists of a film criticism workshop, Coordinated by the National Board of Directors with the support of CGS Marche.

The Venice Cinema Workshop has been one of the most interesting moments in national CGS formation for more than forty years, precisely due to its concomitance with the most prestigious and ancient Film Festival in the world and for the opportunity to participate from the privileged perspective of being accredited.

For 27 years, the work of the Workshop on the language of cinema has been associated with the task as Jury of the “Magic Lantern” Prize, recognized by the Film Festival among the collateral prizes, that will be awarded by the Sociocultural Youth Cinecircoli to the most significant film for the themes related to the condition of young people and education.

In the previous edition, the CGS Jury awarded the “Magic Lantern” Award (26th edition) to the film “Io capitano”, by director Matteo Garrone, then proclaimed on 9 September 2023, winner of the Silver Lion, prize for best direction, and the Marcello Mastroianni Prize to the protagonist Seydou Sarr, a young Senegalese newcomer who is the main character of the film.

The activities will be documented on the social profiles of the national CGS Association and the reviews produced within the Workshop will be published on the  website www.sentieridicinema.it.
