Rome (Italy) On 13 December 2019, in the General Congregation Hall of the Society of Jesus (Societas Iesu SI), there will be the presentation event of the Escritos of the Jesuit Miguel Ángel Fiorito, Spiritual Father of Pope Francis, published by La Civiltà Cattolica, edited by Father José Luis Narvaja SI.
The event will be attended by Mother Yvonne Reungoat, President of the Union of Major Superiors of Italy (USMI) and Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians.
The initial greetings of Father Arturo Sosa SI, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, and of the Director of La Civiltà Cattolica, Father Antonio Spadaro SI, will be followed by the intervention of Pope Francis, who will present the five volumes of the “Writings” of the “Maestro Fiorito”, on the significant date of his fiftieth anniversary of priestly ordination.
Father Miguel Ángel Fiorito (1916-2005), an Argentine Jesuit, formed generations of Latin American Jesuits, including Pope Francis, who remembers him with gratitude in the Preface of which he is the author: “Fiorito left many traces and confided in the fact that these “Escritos” would help him to impress it on many others. He left us the divine imprint that the Lord Jesus impressed on his life: that of passion for the Spiritual Exercises, which are an instrument for knowing how to ‘feel and taste’ the footprint of the Lord in our soul and help to cleanse it of all ambiguity, so that we can follow it, especially in situations where the bad spirit invents things to confuse us.”
This will be the first of the events on the calendar of celebrations for the 170th anniversary of La Civiltà Cattolica (1850 – 2020).
