Picanya (Spain). On 11 March 2025, Mary Help of Christians Foundation of Mary Help of Christians Province (SPA), in collaboration with the NGO EDUCO and the Municipality, started the Mornese Project, a socio-educative assistance project, in the city of Picanya, one of the villages affected by the Dana meteorological phenomenon that struck on 29 October 2024, in the Province of Valencia.

A few days after the emergency and after the visit of the leaders of this international organization in the affected area, Mary Help of Christians Foundation and EDUCO worked on the elaboration of the psychosocial assistance project for the children of Picanya. “We presented the project to the technicians of the Education and Social Services of the Municipality and to the directors of the three nursery and elementary schools in Picanya. After several meetings and procedures for the sale and management of spaces, today we are starting the intervention in CEIP (the public school) of Baladre,” recount the members of the Foundation.

Project Mornese consists of a safe, transformative, and Salesian environment that promotes the holistic development of children. This includes strengthening their school skills, social skills, and emotional well-being. At the same time, their participation in the family, school, and community environment is promoted.

Nuria, Helena, Paula, and Javier are the professionals who make up the young multidisciplinary educative team, whose objectives are to create a service of psychosocial support for children and their families, offering scholastic reinforcements in small groups, as well as recreation and free time activities through the creation of an attractive, varied, and instructive program, and forming  encounters to improve the social skills of pupils from the third to the sixth grade in cooperation with the school team.

“We are convinced that, with the enthusiasm and professionalism of the educative team, the good reception of the families, and the involvement of school tutors and technicians of the Social Services of the Municipality, this project will be a success. We thank EDUCO ONG for giving confidence to the Mary Help of Christians Foundation” affirm the members of the Foundation.
